Plan Your Visit
🐊Wildlife & Hazard SafetyAlligators, heat, mosquitoes
🐊 NPS: never feed or approach alligators or crocodiles — keep at least 15 feet back, and never swim in freshwater areas after dusk. This is the only place on Earth where American alligators and American crocodiles live side by side. Mosquitoes are intense, especially in summer wet season (May–Nov) — repellent is essential. Heat index regularly exceeds 100°F in summer; carry more water than you think you need. Venomous snakes (cottonmouth, coral snake, rattlesnake) are present — watch your step off trails.
