Privacy Policy

1. Who we are

ParkGauge (parkgauge.com) is operated by PSB Venture Group LLC (“ParkGauge,” “we,” “us”). This policy explains what information the site collects, how we use it, and the choices you have. It goes with our Terms of Service.

2. What we collect

Information you give us

  • Your email address, if you sign in. Sign-in is by an emailed link, so we have no passwords. We also store when your account was created.
  • Things you save: your favorite parks, parks you mark as visited in the passport, saved trips (a name and the trip details you built in the trip planner), and your alert subscriptions (which park or item, the type of alert, thresholds, and whether you want immediate, daily, or weekly emails).
  • Messages you send us through the contact form on our About page: your name, your message, and an email address only if you choose to include one.

Information collected automatically

  • Technical data such as your IP address, browser type, and the pages you request. This is handled by Cloudflare, which hosts the site, and is used to deliver the site, keep it secure, and limit abuse (for example, rate limits are applied per IP address).
  • Aggregate usage statistics from Cloudflare Web Analytics, which we use to see which pages are used and how fast they load. It is designed not to use cookies or to track individuals across sites.

3. What we don’t collect

  • We do not ask for or use your device’s location. The trip planner only uses addresses and places you type.
  • We do not collect payment information or government IDs.
  • We do not use advertising networks, social-media tracking pixels, or third-party advertising cookies.

4. How we use information

  • To run the site and the features you ask for: signing you in, keeping your favorites, passport, and saved trips, and sending the alerts you set up.
  • To respond to messages and requests.
  • To keep the site secure, prevent abuse, and fix problems.
  • To understand, in aggregate, how the site is used so we can improve it.
  • To meet legal obligations.

We use your email address only for sign-in links and the alerts you create. We do not send marketing email.

5. Who we share it with

We do not sell your personal information and we do not share it for advertising. We use service providers who process information on our behalf:

  • Cloudflare hosts the site, stores account data in its database, delivers our emails, and provides the analytics and security described above.
  • Google receives and stores messages sent through the contact form (we relay them to a Google Form that we own).
  • Mapbox provides maps, address search, and directions for the trip planner. The places and addresses you search for are sent to it, through a service of ours, to get results.

Your browser also contacts some outside sources directly. To show webcams, photographs, and a few kinds of live data, your browser may load content straight from the National Park Service, park partners, NOAA, and similar sources. Those sources can see your IP address and basic browser details, under their own privacy practices.

We may also disclose information if required by law or to protect rights, safety, and security, and if our business is sold or reorganized, in which case this policy would continue to apply to the information transferred.

The operator of the site can see the email addresses of account holders, for example to provide support or to delete an account, and we are notified when a new account is created.

6. Emails we send

We send (a) sign-in links, which expire after 15 minutes, and (b) alert emails and digests that you subscribed to. Every alert email has an unsubscribe link, and you can also manage or remove alerts on your Account page.

7. Cookies and data stored on your device

  • Sign-in cookie. If you sign in, we set one cookie named pg_session to keep you signed in. It is marked secure and HttpOnly, and lasts up to 60 days after your last visit. We store only a one-way hash of it on our server. Signing out removes it.
  • Saved copies of park data. So the dashboards still show something when your signal is weak, your browser keeps a saved copy of the weather, air quality, alerts, and similar data you have viewed (in your browser’s storage and the site’s service worker cache), along with the pages themselves. The site labels saved data with its age. This stays on your device.
  • Small preferences. We remember things like tips you’ve already seen and, if you start to save something before signing in, that pending action. Trip planner work in progress is kept in your browser’s session storage.

You can clear all of this in your browser’s settings at any time. Doing so may sign you out and remove the saved park data.

8. How long we keep it

  • Account data and the things you saved are kept until you delete your account.
  • Sign-in links are stored only as a one-way hash and can be used for 15 minutes.
  • Sessions end 60 days after you last use them, or when you sign out.
  • Contact-form messages are kept as long as we need them to respond and keep reasonable records.
  • Hosting logs are kept by Cloudflare under its own retention practices.

9. Your choices and rights

  • Delete your account. On your Account page, choose Delete Account (you confirm by typing your email). This permanently removes your account record, your sign-in methods and sessions, your favorites, your passport, your saved trips, and your alert subscriptions and pending alerts. Messages you sent through the contact form are not tied to your account; ask us if you want those removed.
  • Unsubscribe from any alert using the link in its email, or on your Account page.
  • Sign out on your Account page, or clear your browser data.
  • Ask us to access, correct, or delete information about you through the contact form. We may need to confirm it is you.

10. California residents

If you live in California, you can ask us what personal information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and expect not to be treated differently for doing so. We do not sell personal information or share it for cross-context behavioral advertising. We do not track you across other sites or services, and we do not change how the site works in response to “Do Not Track” signals because we do not do that kind of tracking. To make a request, use the contact form.

11. Children

The site is not directed to children under 13, and accounts are for people 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has given us information, contact us and we will delete it.

12. Security

We use HTTPS, store sign-in links and sessions only as one-way hashes, and limit who can access account data. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security.

13. Where data is processed

ParkGauge is operated from the United States. Our providers may process information in the United States and other countries where they operate. By using the site you understand your information may be processed there.

14. Changes to this policy

We may update this policy. We will post the new version here with a new “Last updated” date and, for significant changes, make a reasonable effort to tell account holders.

15. Contact

Questions or requests about privacy? Send us a message through the contact form on our About page. ParkGauge is operated by PSB Venture Group LLC.
