⚠️Ocean & Terrain SafetyStrong currents
🌊 Ocean tides and undertows here can be genuinely dangerous — know conditions before entering the water. Coral cuts heal slowly, so avoid contact with reef surfaces. Rocky shorelines and coral-rubble beaches get slippery, and falling coconuts and shifting tides are real hazards along the coast. Sun exposure is intense near the equator — carry 2–3 liters of water per person on any hike. Stray dogs and insect bites are common; keep some distance from unfamiliar animals. NPS visitor info ↗
✈️Getting to the Park3 islands, no fee
TutuilaMain visitor center
Pago Pago
Reached by international flight; the park visitor center and most of the rainforest/coastal trail units are here, accessible by car, taxi, or local bus.
Ofu & Ta'ūManu'a Islands
Fly or ferry from Pago Pago
Samoa Airways flies to Ofu and Fitiuta airports roughly 3x/week (~$310 round-trip); the MV Manu'atele ferry runs about every two weeks ($60 round-trip). Ofu's reef is considered one of the best-preserved in the National Park System.
🏠 No entrance fee anywhere in the park. There's no campground — Ofu has Vaoto Lodge near the airstrip, and Ta'ū requires a homestay coordinated in advance with the visitor center. Full directions & transportation ↗
